Biography
John is a licensed Humanist Celebrant, able to conduct Legal Weddings, Affirmation of Vows or Renewal of Vow ceremonies.
As a former soldier and police officer, John has dedicated his life to helping others and is still doing so through work with the Army Cadet Force and through delivery of community focussed training helping others seek employment.
John says he really can remember every minute of my own humanist wedding, how incredibly special and beautiful the occasion was and because of that, he knows first-hand what a difference it makes to have a personalised ceremony for such an important celebration.
John believes and feels that, quite rightly, couples today are deeply committed to having a ceremony which reflects them and their journey together. A Humanist Ceremony focuses on just that. John enjoys meeting people, hearing stories of their journey together, and it gives him immense pleasure creating a ceremony which is personal to them and which they, and their guests, will remember long after the event.
I understand that it is an honour and a privilege to be able to conduct any ceremony and it all starts with just a phone call, or a message to meet up.
John believes that no ceremony is the same no couple is the same. In John’s opinion, the ceremony is one of the most important parts of the day and “I believe that you should be able to have a ceremony that reflects you as a couple.”
The ceremony can be as long, or as short as you wish. You are only bound by your imagination.

We booked John Tonner to conduct our wedding ceremony on 6th August 2022 and we cannot recommend him enough. From our first meeting with him we knew we had made the right choice. We wanted a very relaxed/personal ceremony and that is exactly what we got. John was very helpful and made sure we had everything was in place (wedding schedule ect). Communication back and forth was always extremely quick. We were inundated with messages from guests commenting on how they really enjoyed our humanist ceremony and just how unique John made it for us.
Once again we can’t thank John enough.
We first met John Tonner at a wedding fair and, once we had decided on our date, were delighted that his diary was free.
At every stage, the communication with John was second to none, and he patiently took us through everything we needed to do.
Our wedding was on 27/8/2022 and the ceremony was beautiful, as was the handfasting. We couldn't have asked for better. John's professionalism and calm demeanour was great. He is a genuinely nice guy, who we wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
